Email security awareness – where are you checking your corporate mails from?
People may check their corporate mails from cafes, from their personal laptops or friends/relatives PCs, just because they want to update the current work scenario on their workplace. But how safe is that? What are the things that they should be looking when they do that?
Email can be a real Achilles heel, partly because it is so familiar that it is taken for granted. The fundamental security issues surrounding its use are all too often overlooked. Shown below is the standard procedure to tackle the so called mail issue.

The 5 point standard procedure;
1. Do not download e-mail attachments from corporate mails in an internet café or in an unauthorized PC unless it’s an absolute necessity.
2. Even if you download a corporate mail, please delete immediately before leaving the PC and don’t forget to empty the recycle bin.
3. Do not access corporate mails on free public hotspots like coffee bars - where there is a high chance of hacking out your personal data, since you are not aware of the authenticity of the security provided by the wireless net connectivity.
4. Enable browser security. Browsers such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Netscape, and Safari all have Internet security features built into them. Disable the browser from automatically downloading cookies. Always remember never to click on unwanted pop-ups.
5. Use an Anti- Virus, Anti-spyware and a Firewall.
And above all use some common sense.
